Emme and I went to the mall Saturday afternoon to possibly get her a new pair of shoes. Her toes seem to be at the end of her current shoes -- not pushing on the end, but definitely close. I had planned to take her to Stride Rite, where I get most of the kids' shoes, but it was nuts, and we ended up choosing a pair from Nordstrom's (pricey in general, but the shoes are comparable to Stride Rite). Before we even left for the mall, though, I thought to check the "coats and shoes"bin in the storage area. I figured she could maybe wear -- or at least have as a spare -- Oliver's old shoes. His shoes usually don't make it to the shoe bin anymore, as they're filthy and worn out by the time he's done with them, but his first few pairs were in good enough condition to save. So I found his first pair of shoes -- the ones I bought when he was just a year, and I had to get them because he needed a pair of real rubber-bottomed shoes for daycare, even though he was still two months from walking. The problem: while Emme is currently wearing a 3.5 or maybe a 4 at 14 months, Oliver's first pair of shoes were a 6.
And while we're on the subject of Emme, she's developed a new skill. Wes and I are kiss-on-the-mouth people. We kiss our kids on the cheek, too, and zerbert their bellies, but we give kisses on the mouth. Up until now, Emme was satisfied to receive them but didn't participate much. She had learned at school to blow kisses, and if you asked her to give someone a kiss, she would do that. I guess she's finally been socialized to home now, though. If you ask her for a kiss, she leans her head and looks for your lips. Sometimes she gives slobbery open-mouthed ones, so you have to watch out. When I dropped her off at school today, her teacher told me that on Friday, Emme had been so kind as to give one her classmates two kisses -- on the mouth. I'm not sure I'm ready for all that.
