The big sleep

Oliver slept out of his crib for the first time last night. Wes and I moved the twin mattress off the bottom bunk in the next room and put it against a wall in Oliver's bedroom. He had his bath, got his blankie and Lovie, and we put him on the bed and rubbed his back a little. We said "night-night" and left, then waited to hear him wreaking havoc in the room. But we didn't.

About an hour later we heard a thud, and I waited for him to cry -- which he never did. Wes went up and found that his head and shoulders had fallen off the mattress, but he hadn't woken up. Wes put him back on the mattress, closer to the wall, and make a nest of blankets on the open side of the mattress should he fall again. I woke up around 7:30am this morning, expecting to hear him playing in his room, but when I went up, he was just waking up, laying happily on his new bed.

We need to secure some things in the other room and take down the ladder on the bunk beds (that Oliver can, without assistance, go up and down) before he sleeps in there. I feel like we need to use a rail for a while, but we were hoping he would be able to get in and out of bed by himself, so I'm not sure how we're going to work that.

I'm a little uneasy moving him out of the nursery before we have anyone ready to move into it. We know we want and are ready for more kids, so it's not like we're going to take the room apart while we wait. But at the same time, I don't want to leave Oliver in it just because I'm not pregnant. He's big enough now that he can almost climb out of it (and has clearly thought about it at least a few times). Just another example, I suppose, of how I have to let him grow up, even if I'm not ready.

The view from the top

Ollie has been playing recently on the bunk bed in the other upstairs bedroom. Wes and I let him crawl around on the lower bunk, and Wes puts him up on the top bunk (which doesn't have a mattress) to look down over the side. The bear plays, too. Oliver loves to try to climb up the ladder to the top bunk. Rest assured, he doesn't make any progress without our help -- but it doesn't stop him from trying.
